5 Miles To Fight Mesothelioma
My father, Henry Kranichfeld III, lost his battle with mesothelioma in November of 2016. Mesothelioma is a terrible type of cancer caused by asbestos that has taken too many great people from us. I am going to run the Rye Derby in late April of 2017. All funds raised will be donated to Mesothelioma research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
This is also a great challenge for myself, as I almost died of a lung virus in late 2016, and I am blind as a result of a misdiagnosed brain tumor in 2010. I hope to inspire others that they can do anything despite disabilities or other limitations.
UPDATE:
So the first annual “5 Miles to Fight Mesothelioma” is coming to a close. The grand total after all donations, fundraising events, and generous gifts from our sponsors is $8,372! So we eclipsed the $5,000 goal by over 3 grand! I am so grateful for everyone who contributed in any way, from time, to donations, to sharing on social media, to guiding me while I trained in the park, and everything else. Extra special thanks to our sponsors Carpet Trends, Jerry’s Post Road Market, and Kelly’s Sea Level, and all of the people involved in those businesses. I am hoping to make this an annual event in one form or another, so keep your eyes and ears open next year.
I still miss my father all the time, but I am sure he would be smiling today knowing that you all helped in the fight against the terrible cancer Mesothelioma.
