Maurice Anthony Campbell Il, age 19, passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2022, after a 4.5-year battle against a rare form of cancer. He was diagnosed on his birthday July 28, 2018, with DSRCT (desmoplastic small round cell tumor). Maurice entered this world full of life and love. He was an old soul with natural intelligence and athleticism. He was also compassionate, funny. and altruistic. Maurice is a 2021 alum of The Horace Mann School, and he was a sophomore at The University of Pennsylvania.
Maurice was surrounded by family and friends during his last days. They took turns telling stories of his athletic talents, adventures, and most importantly, his kind heart and his impact in this world. There was never a moment when he did not make people feel included.
Maurice is survived by his parents Janet Vásquez-Campbell and Maurice Campbell, and his sister Grace. Maurice is also survived by a wonderful group of family members, life-long friends, teammates, coaches, and teachers who mourn his passing with us. Maurice is preceded in death by his grandfather, Armando Vásquez.
Maurice and his family are forever grateful to the army of caring health professionals at Memorial Sloan Kettering and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia who delivered excellent care during his battle. No child has to suffer because of a pediatric cancer diagnosis. So please join us in the efforts of raising funds to help combat this horrible disease. Your donation can help make the difference in finding a cure.
