In Memory of John M. Chapski
Please consider donating in honor of John M. Chapski for critical pancriatic cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering — where new discoveries are revolutionizing how cancer is diagnosed and treated.
John's Story
John was diagnosed with pancriatic cancer on April 16, 2021 after a year long search for the root cause of acid reflux and stomach pain. Four endoscopies, an esophogeal dialation, and a CAT scan later, a pancriatic tumor metastasized to the liver was found. He was told it would take two weeks before additional tests could proceed. On April 27th he was hospitalized for rapid weight loss, burst blood vessels on the chest, swollen feet, and loss of balance. John spent two weeks in the hospital where they put in a billiary drain, ultimately determining that his bilirubin levels were too high for chemotherapy, even with the drain in place, and released him on May 10th. On May 18th he had his first appointmet at MSK in the search for answers. By this time his skin and eyes were visibly jaundiced. MSK took the time to explain his options and how they needed to start him in chemotherapy right away, pushing him in for immediate care. From May 20-22nd, John received his first and only dose of chemotherapy. By the night of the 22nd, his billiary drain changed colors, signifying an infection and a return to the hospital. John remained in the hospital until May 28th when his billiruben levels reached an all-time high and the doctors declaired there was nothing else they could do but make him comfortable via home-hospice. John died at home on June 3, 2021, exactly 7 weeks after his diagnosis.
The lack of ability to diagnose and treat pancriatic cancer leads great losses such as John's.
Donors Fuel Progress
