In Loving Memory of Sara "Ladyhawk" Hawkins
This page is in memory of: Sara Hawkins

It fills us with immense sadness and heartache to inform you that Sara “Ladyhawk” Hawkins passed away in July 2024, less than three months after her 46th birthday. Sara was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and colleague, but she was so much more. She was light in darkness, a cool breeze in the unbearable heat and a warm, comforting blanket in the bitter cold. She will always be these things to us, and we will keep her in our hearts for all our days. Cancer may have taken her body, but her spirit lives on in us, and others that loved her.
In 2022, Sara was diagnosed with Stage 4 GE junction adenocarcinoma (aka, Stage 4 stomach cancer or esophageal cancer), which is classified as a rare cancer. She had no prior symptoms or warning that her body was dealing with this horrific disease prior to March 2022. The news was devastating for our family, but she would not simply set back and allow the disease to progress unopposed. Instead, she decided to take the fight to cancer through Cycle for Survival.
Despite enduring numerous rounds of treatments, Sara maintained an unconquerable spirit and started Team Ladyhawk to participate in the Washington, DC Cycle for Survival event. Our family and community rallied together to build Team Ladyhawk into an unstoppable force for good that raised $546,589 in two years to support rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The massive impact created by Team Ladyhawk would not have been possible without our fearless leader and namesake, Sara. She inspired a community to work together to raise vital funds for research on rare cancers that have limited or no treatment options.
During her battle with cancer, Sara lived life to the fullest and we traveled together as a family to beautiful places creating unforgettable memories. Although Sara’s journey has ended, the movement she inspired continues in her honor. It was important to her that Team Ladyhawk press forward, continue the good work, to allow others to reap the benefits of the fundraising that was so important to her. So now more than ever does Team Ladyhawk look to you, to allow the men and women at MSK to find better treatments, and even cures, to those suffering from a rare cancer.
Please consider making a gift in honor of Sara to support Team Ladyhawk and provide hope for the future.
Sincerely,
Chuck, Molly, & Jack
