Peter Guzy Legacy Research Fund
In loving memory of Peter Guzy, who passed away on 14 April 2022 after a valiant battle with Glioblastomia, a rare and brutal form of brain cancer, our family is raising money for critical brain cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering. At MSK, new discoveries are revolutionizing how cancer is diagnosed and treated. Your gift will support critical research by Peter's remarkable neuro-oncologist, Dr. Alexandra Miller, and honor Peter's legacy. Our hope is that these funds will bring Dr. Miller and her team one step closer to finding a cure for brain cancers.
About Peter Guzy
Peter was a brilliant architect and lifelong student. A 1979 graduate of Cornell University School of Architecture, he was awarded the Eidlitz Fellowship, which he completed at the American Academy in Rome, before teaching architectural design and theory at the ETH in Zürich, Switzerland. He practiced architecture in Zürich for a number of years, before returning to NYC to found Asfour Guzy Architects in 1988 with Edward Asfour. Peter’s timeless projects exhibit his passionate devotion to livable high design that tells a story without over-stylization (https://guzyarchitects.com). Peter often quoted the renowned modernist architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who said, “I don’t want to be clever; I want to be good.” As a friend and fellow architect recently noted, Peter managed to be both — in work, and in life.
Peter was a devoted and loving father, husband, friend, and mentor, who enjoyed many lifelong and deeply meaningful relationships. He was a voracious book collector and reader of literature and poetry, an encyclopedic lover of music and self-taught pianist — playing jazz on his heirloom Mason & Hamlin, or any piano he happened upon — and an amazing chef, who never passed up the chance to cook for family and friends. He loved traveling to enjoy the architectural and artistic wonders of the world, delighting in all their beauty. By the strength of his passions and enduring wit, Peter inspired those around him to joyfully appreciate the extraordinary details of life.
