In Memory of Serge Grenier
Just over two years ago, my father was diagnosed with multiple Stage IV cancers. Prior to arriving at MSK, his initial diagnosis almost seemed as it came out of a B-Rated horror movie. Not only did they not identify all/ the extent of the cancers, they wanted to start treatment that day, before having all of the results back! Thankfully my father got up and left before they could touch him. He knew right away he had to leave and get a second opinion, and thank God he did. The minute my father first walked through the doors at MSKCC, he knew he had come to the right place. He felt at ease and immediately had a great feeling of confidence, upon meeting Dr. Veach and his team. I couldn't be more grateful to everyone at MSKCC, they were there for my father every step of the way, and gave me two more years with him, that I know if he stayed at where he was initially diagnosed, he would have left this world much sooner. Over the course of his treatment, my mother passed away after a decade long battle to Neurological Lyme Disease. My father was heartbroken, causing a severe setback to his own battle, but defying all odds my father survived, and continued his fight to live. Serge was a devoted husband, and dedicated father. I couldn't have lucked out anymore, having such an amazing Dad. The pandemic didn't make things any easier, but how MSK handled the situation was extraordinary. I knew when my father would go in for treatments, that I didn't have to worry about him catching Covid, and that he was safe because the precautions they had in order. The doctors, nurses, and staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering, stayed there fighting on the front line, when a couple other of my father’s doctors (not affiliated with MSK) closed up shop, not even accepting televisits. Every step of the way, MSK was there to make sure my father got the help, services, and treatments he needed. They made sure he was being taken care of, even if it was outside of their responsibility. They picked up the slack, when other doctors gave up. I am raising money in memory of my father, to help continue critical cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering—where new discoveries are revolutionizing how cancer is diagnosed and treated. Up until my mother passed away, people were shocked my father was undergoing chemo treatments, because how healthy looking and active he was. I am fully confident that if my mother had not passed, my father would still be here today, deemed free of cancer. Join me in continuing to making a difference by donating today!
Donors Fuel Progress
When you give to MSK, you're making a direct impact: from innovative research that can move newly discovered drugs into clinical trials, to the cancer treatment and care patients receive every day. MSK really went out of their way, several times, to be there for my father, especially in events that were beyond their control.
Fundraising efforts can lead to important and life-changing breakthroughs in cancer research—making it possible for scientists to overcome the hurdles of funding gaps. Philanthropy provides the tools they need to swiftly pursue promising research initiatives.
