He was a life long resident of Long Branch, a graduate of Long Branch High School and attended Mira Costa Community College. He was an Alpha Board Supervisor at Monmouth Park Racetrack for 37 years. Tim was an avid surfer, loved the beach. He enjoyed traveling and golf. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Anna Kelly. Timothy was diagnosed in 2020 with melanoma. He came to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where he met Dr. James Smithy. Timothy remained cancer free at the time of his passing in 2024.
Dr. Smithy is an extraordinary oncologist focusing on cellular therapies- the use of cells to fight cancer. Thus foregoing the need for intense chemical treatments like chemotherapy. Dr. Smithy is also a member of MSK’s Cellular Therapy Service, where his team is investigating adoptive cell therapy with tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) for some people whose melanoma has not responded to other treatments. TIL therapy is an immunotherapy that uses a patient’s immune cells to kill cancer.
Donors Fuel Progress
When you give to MSK, you become part of a community that is working to develop new ways to prevent, treat, and cure cancer, from the most common to the rarest. Whether donors give to honor a friend or family member, to fuel the next breakthrough, or to make the world a better place, everyone in our community is bound together by hope, optimism, and an unrelenting drive toward impact.
Your philanthropy accelerates innovation, allowing MSK physician-scientists to pursue bold ideas and tackle the biggest challenges in cancer research and care. This work ultimately leads to discoveries — including new cancer drugs and other treatments — that improve the lives of people with cancer at MSK and around the world.
