What is Fred's Team?
Fred's Team is a group of members who participate in marathons and create their own events all over the world to support lifesaving cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Named after running legend Fred Lebow, Fred's Team has raised more than $50 million since 1995. Regardless of your age or fitness level, you can help Fred's Team make a difference by joining us, by supporting a member, or by making a general gift to fund cancer research.

What is the registration fee? Is there a fundraising requirement?
When you register for a calendar event, your $100 registration fee is applied toward your fundraising requirement. If you're participating in Choose Your Own Event, your $50 registration fee is applied toward your requirement.

When I register with Fred's Team, do I automatically get an entry into the event?
While Fred's Team does have a limited number of guaranteed spots for events on our calendar, they are intended for those who have tried and failed to gain entry on their own. We allocate our guaranteed entries on a first-come, first-served basis.

When will I receive my Fred's Team uniform?
Your Fred's Team uniform will be shipped to you within two weeks after you've achieved half of your fundraising requirement.

Can I participate in more than one Fred's Team event in a year?
Yes, you can sign up to run, walk, bike, or climb with Fred's Team in as many events as you wish!

Is there a limit to the number of participants per event?
Fred's Team has a limited number of guaranteed entries available for our calendar events. These entries are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all entries are filled, any remaining members will be placed on a wait list and notified in turn if and when spots open up. If you have joined Fred's Team in the past, (or if you've registered for an event and canceled) any outstanding fundraising balance must be fulfilled in order to qualify for one of these spots.

Certainly! We provide expert training based on your fitness level, and you'll receive personal support from our dedicated staff to help you reach your goals. Contact us for more information.

Is there a way for me to share my Fred's Teams story?
Absolutely. Visit the Share Your Story page to learn how to submit your story. With your permission and approval, we may publish your story on the Web site, in our Fred's Team e-newsletter, and on Facebook.

What happens if I get injured? Is there a cancellation policy?
If you are unable to participate in a Fred's Team calendar event due to illness, injury or conflict, you are obligated to notify MSKCC/Fred's Team immediately. At that time, you will be provided a MSKCC/Fred's Team Cancellation Form that must be filled out before the cancellation will be processed. If you received a guaranteed entry from Fred's Team, you will still be responsible for fulfilling the minimum fundraising requirement.

Fundraising and Donations:
Is there a fundraising requirement for each event?
Yes, each Fred’s Team event has a fundraising requirement, and participants are encouraged to surpass this minimum goal to make an even bigger difference in the fight against cancer. This requirement is set to maximize the funds we are able to direct to cancer research.

What is the due date for meeting the fundraising requirement? What happens if I don't meet this date?
If you are participating in a Fred's Team calendar event, you are required to fulfill your fundraising requirement by the deadline listed in the fundraising agreement for that event.

How can I raise funds for Fred's Team?
Online fundraising is easy. Just visit your participant center to customize your personal page. From there, you can import your contacts and send e-mail messages that link to your page. You also have online access to fundraising tips, templates, and donation forms. Set your goals high!
Please Note: Funds raised for all Fred's Team events must come through your online Fred's Team fundraising page or by check/money order payable to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Any donations from a third party fundraising site (e.g. Active, Crowdrise, etc) will not be counted towards your fundraising requirement.

What information can I post on my Fred's Team fundraising page?
We encourage you to share your story and customize your page. All customized content and photos are subject to MSKCC review and approval. If you plan to include personal information about other people on your fundraising page, including family members or friends whose lives have been touched by cancer, please be sure to consult with them first in case they have concerns about seeing such information made public.

Where do I mail checks given to me by donors?
Some people may prefer to hand you their donation to Fred's Team. It's easy to make sure that these "offline" gifts are counted toward your fundraising total. Simply print and fill out the donation form, enclose it with all offline payments, and mail to:

One hundred percent of the funds raised by Fred's Team go to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the nation's preeminent center for research and treatment devoted exclusively to cancer.

How long will it take for gifts to be processed and counted toward my fundraising goal?
Online donations are processed automatically and immediately applied to your fundraising total. Offline gifts (made by check or money order) will be processed and applied to your fundraising total within seven to ten business days after they are received.

It's simple to donate to a participant. Search here for the Fred's Team member you wish to support. If you prefer, you can use our printable mail-in form to make a gift.

I have just made an online gift. When can I expect my gift to appear on the fundraising honor roll?
Please note that, while your gift will be immediately credited to the individual you have specified, it may take as long as one hour for your donation to be accurately reflected on the Web site's fundraising honor roll. If after one hour you do not see the gift displayed correctly, please contact us.

What type of tax acknowledgment will I receive for my donation and when will I receive it?
When you make an online gift, you will receive an e-mail confirmation and acknowledgment as soon as your transaction is complete. For all offline gifts, you will receive a written acknowledgment in the mail.

What is a matching gift program? How do I participate?
Many companies have programs that match the charitable contributions of their employees. This can double and sometimes triple the amount of a donation, at no additional cost to the employee. To find out whether you or your donor works for a company with a matching gift program, check our matching gift search page here.

Training:
What training support will I receive?
You'll get the expert guidance and support you need to reach your goal. Training benefits include a training chart, nutrition counseling from our U.S. Track and Field-Certified coaches, and an e-newsletter including training and nutrition tips. ING New York City Marathon and NYC Half runners have the opportunity to participate in team training runs.
