The Annual Health Education Seminar is central to The Society's commitment to providing public education on the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer. A different discussion topic is selected every year based on its timeliness and importance and expert clinicians at MSKCC are invited to speak on the chosen subject.
The Society’s 2011 Heath Education Seminar will be hosted by Linda Wells, Editor-in-Chief of Allure Magazine and chaired by Alex Lind Rose and Kathy Thomas. The event will focus on skin cancer prevention and feature three of MSKCC’s leading experts on the topic. Dr. Ashfaq Marghoob, will moderate. Dr. Stephen Wang’s topic is titled "Demystifying Sunscreens: shedding light on the benefits of UVA and antioxidant protection."  He will discuss the updated status on the sunscreen regulation from the FDA, and the future trend of sunscreen formulation. Dr. Erica Lee's topic is titled "Get to know your skin: early prevention and diagnosis of skin cancer."  She will discuss photodynamic therapy (PDT), which is a medical treatment that targets precancerous skin lesions in three easy steps: application, incubation and activation.
