JOIN THE BATTLE. GIVE TO BEAT RARE CANCERS.
In March of 2018 I will ride in the annual Cycle for Survival charity event for the eighth time.
Julia and I first rode in this event, which was founded by our friend, who was battling a rare form of cancer. Our participation was motivated by the overwhelming desire to support her. This motivation quickly transformed for me after riding in my first event and hearing stories of others who were battling rare cancers. During our journey, the ride leader reminded us that our labor of exercise and fund raising was devoted to people who were struggling against forms of cancer without established treatment plans. All forms are cancer are horrendous, but the added devastation of learning that you have a form of cancer with no trusted medical game plan is too much for me. This is why I ride.
Every dollar raised through Cycle goes toward trying to provide hope for those who face cancer with no treatment protocol. All the money raised funds new clinical trials, studies and research initiatives to propel forward progress. Roughly half of all cancer diagnoses are a rare form of the disease. These are diagnosis we all have heard from loved ones: pediatric cancers (all of them), leukemia, lymphoma, thyroid, ovarian and pancreatic to name a few.
My first ride allowed me to grasp the level of devastation associated with a diagnosis for those affected, and I became both sad and angry. These emotions have grown and become unmistakable since I became father three years ago. I now understand that the health of another human being is the most powerful thing for which I can wish.
I have participated in Cycle for the past few years without asking for donations to support my effort and am committed to ride until we find a cure. This commitment will be the way I fight back against cancer. I will not ask you for support every year but would greatly appreciate your help in 2018.
