JOIN THE BATTLE. GIVE TO BEAT RARE CANCERS.
If you never met my sister (or even if you did), this video is all you need to understand her personality and approach to life:
Jen recorded this video in March 2011, on her 40th birthday. Four months later, she died, the victim of a rare cancer called sarcoma, which had been part of her life for the previous seven years.
I’ve been thinking about this video a lot recently. That’s because a number of my closest friends and I will soon reach a milestone birthday of our own, and I – a perfectly healthy person – want to make sure that I celebrate with as much joie de vivre as Jen. The world in which we live may at times feel confusing and disheartening, but I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.
Since my sister and her husband Dave founded Cycle For Survival in 2007, we have raised more than $144 million. Every single dollar is promptly and directly allocated to rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Rare cancer patients make up about half of all people fighting cancer, but they often have limited or no treatment options because rare cancer research is drastically underfunded.
I humbly ask you to consider a donation in support of my ride on March 11. I’d like more cancer victims to celebrate more milestone birthdays.
