JOIN THE BATTLE. GIVE TO BEAT RARE CANCERS.
Getting the call that a close family member has cancer is one of the worst calls you can ever receive. I've had the unfortunate circumstance of getting that call a few too many times. Six years ago, I got that call about my mom. For those who know me at all, you know that my mom and I are incredibly close despite living on opposite coasts and being three time zones apart. So when I found out she was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia, it felt like the world stopped. Fortunately for my mom, they found it early and her course of treatment was pretty much the easiest one could hope for. She is the strongest person I know and has been in remission for several years, continuing to receive glowing reports from her doctors.
Then, this year that call came again, this time from my mom about my aunt, her younger sister. I have always looked up to my Aunt Jackie. When I was a kid, we would always do the coolest things together, like watch Pretty Women even though I was probably too young. Then she moved to Los Angeles and she got exponentially cooler, living in Hollywood, having run-ins with celebs, and just doing something unique and different. So naturally I followed in her footsteps and moved to LA and moved in with her! For a year and a half we had a great time and it felt like when I was a kid again, watching movies, eating good meals, and enjoying each others company. Fast forward to today and my Aunt Jackie has not been as lucky as my mom and she is currently undergoing chemo for a rare form of Lymphoma.
After emotionally trying to process this news, my next thought was of Cycle for Survival. This incredible organization that has been a part of my life for the last six years and has really changed my life. While none of my family members are personally being treated at MSK, the work being done there is incredible. Cycle for Survival has been my own way to survive the horror that is cancer and I hope that you will join me in this fight.
Last year I was fortunate to raise $5,000 and this year I am hoping to get to $7,000+. Please join me in the fight against rare cancers. Not just for me but for you and your loved ones, so that one day, those terrible phone calls don't exist and we are all living our healthiest, best lives.
