JOIN THE BATTLE. Beat Rare Cancers.
As a three time cancer survivor I have learned a lot about cancer treatments and about life. I had retinoblastoma as a baby, then a big brain tumor when I was two. After surviving and healing I was back on track for a few years until I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in my leg when I was eleven. After the leg cancer I had some follow up surgeries so I have spent a lot of time at Sloan Kettering in the past few years. I am happy to say as of january I am off of crutches for good and walking well on my own. I really enjoy getting around school and the city and feel so lucky to be healthy and active.
I am participating in Cycle for Survival again with my family to raise money for cancer research. Team Perry's contributions go directly to retinoblastoma and brain tumor research. Because of Cycle for Survival, intra-arterial chemotherapy (delivering chemo right to the difficult to reach eye) has become widely used around the world. Dr. Abramson has trained oncologists in his breakthrough technique so that other institutions can offer the same treatment. Cycle money funds clinical trials and is helping change the course of cancer treatment to more specialized targeted therapies. My sincere hope is that kids with any cancer do not have to suffer through all of the systemic chemo that I had.
Please help me reach my goal and help cancer patients everywhere get less invasive, more effective treatments. Together, we can find a cure.
