JOIN THE BATTLE. Beat Rare Cancers.
Welcome to team #WesDurkinStrong's page!
We are raising money for Cycle for Survival, the movement to beat rare cancers.
Wes Durkin was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in October of 2016 when he was just 10 months old. AML is considered rare in adults and is extremely rare in children, as there are only ~500 kids diagnosed with AML each year. He underwent several rounds of chemotherapy and had a bone marrow transplant at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) and as of today there is no evidence of leukemia.
Rare cancers like Wes's have historically been underfunded, and as a result there have been few advances in treatments for patients with AML in the last 40 years.
Unfortunately, rare cancers aren't rare at all. About 50% of people with cancer have a rare cancer. Rare cancers include brain, pancreatic, ovarian, all types of pediatric cancers, and many others. Even though they account for half of all cancer diagnoses when combined, research on rare cancers is drastically underfunded.
Cycle for Survival aims to change that by raising funds for rare cancer research.
100% of every dollar you give funds pioneering research led by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center within six months of the events.
Thank you in advance for your support! Together, we can bring new and better treatments to patients worldwide.
