JOIN THE BATTLE. Beat Rare Cancers.
Welcome to Evanston Rocks 2018!
This is Evanston Rocks’ 6th year as a Cycle for Survival team and we are hoping to make this year the best year yet! With a goal of $50,000, we ride for our friends and family who are affected by rare cancers, and we support the important research Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center does to hopefully one day find a cure for all cancers.
This past year, Missy Hedges, team captain and my mom, lost her fight to a rare stomach cancer. She fought two different types of cancer for over 5 years until she physically and mentally could not withstand her battle anymore. Because of the research that was done for both of her cancers and her extraordinary courage, she fought her battle in full force, as hard as she could. From lengthy hospital stays to round after round of chemo, she was not afraid to fight her monster. She will forever be an inspiration to all, and her spirit in Cycle for Survival will follow our team and our community as we continue her fight. This year, while we ride for all people affected by cancer, we ride especially for Missy and everything she fought for.
With every $25,000 we raise, we are able to designate that money to a specific area of research. This is very effective because we can personalize our funds to support the research that has special importance to our team. Last year, the Evanston Rocks team raised about $46,000 with 23 riders on the team. This year our goal is to raise over $50,000 so that we can donate to two specific areas of research.
This event means so much to our team and our community. Without the help of MSKCC many cancer patients will not have a chance for a potential cure for their disease. MSKCC works to find a cure, not just for the most common cancers, but for rare cancers that send people into the unknown. We want to thank everyone for your contributions to our 2018 team and for your support throughout the battle. Evanston rocks!
