JOIN THE BATTLE. Beat Rare Cancers.
WELCOME TO OUR PAGE!
We are raising money for pediatric cancer research with Cycle for Survival, the movement to beat rare cancers. Will you help us raise money to offer less toxic treatments to thousands of children praying for a cure?
Why this matters to us:
Last year, my 10-month-old daughter, Sawyer Rose, was admitted to Memorial Sloan Kettering to be treated for stage 4 Neuroblastoma. She had a 7cm tumor in her adrenal gland. The cancer had spread through 85% of her tiny body. There was no time for sorrow’s bottomless rabbit hole. In spite of our heavy hearts, my husband and I jumped from sheltering our three young daughters from life’s harsh realities to teaching our girls to meet them.
Two words sparked enough faith to carry our family through this unimaginable battle: treatable, curable. Sawyer had: 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 11 blood transfusions, a 9hour surgery, and a stem cell collection. It is harder to enumerate what each of us endured emotionally. We suffered, we changed, we grew. Then, we got the phone call letting us know that Sawyer’s scans were all clear- no evidence of disease.
When I told our seven-year-old daughter Dylan about our wonderful news, her first response was: that’s terrific mom. We’re still going to help other children, right? There it was, the first glimpse of silver lining. Cancer showed us life through a dramatically different lens. When I heard Dylan’s empathetic words, I understood two things: we are all in this fight. And, this new perspective inspired us all to do something for the children who are still living chemo-to-chemo, waiting for a medical breakthrough.
We formed Gold Ribbon Riders Inc. to do the most good for the most children. Friends and family signed up to support a vastly underfunded, worthy cause and to honor Sawyer’s heroism. We joined Cycle for Survival to ensure 100% of every donated dollar directly funds childhood cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering within six months of our fundraising event. What started as an urgent desire to be proactive, blossomed into something so much bigger and brighter than anything we imagined.
Adults and children are showing up, rising up-- donating money, energy and talents. Fueled by high hopes and gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the solution, we raised $413,675-- enough to fund a whole genome sequencing trial that will begin this summer. We are just getting started. My friend’s seven-year-old son, Max, has already promised: when the adults are too old and too tired to run this organization, the kids will take over. Cancer, this means war.
50% of People with Cancer Have a Rare Cancer
When combined, about half of all patients fighting cancer are fighting a rare cancer. These are cancers we know — such as leukemia, lymphoma, thyroid, ovarian, brain, pancreatic, and all pediatric cancers — yet research is largely underfunded.
100% Goes to Lifesaving Research Led by MSK
Every dollar you give will advance innovative studies and clinical trials led by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). Discoveries made by MSK revolutionize how cancer is diagnosed and treated, helping patients across the country and around the world.
Join us or make a donation today. Your efforts will fight cancer and make a real impact for people who have few, if any, treatment options. As a donor, you will learn about the projects supported and the breakthroughs made.
Thank you in advance for your support!
