My patients inspire me to go to work everyday. Cancer may change their lives and bodies but they learn to adapt to their impairments with strength and dignity. Each morning, these brave people wake up to undergo treatment for colorectal or appendiceal cancer or face life with the possibility of recurrence not far from their minds.
This year I am running for the memories of Sam, Ricky, Basil, Dennis, Claudine, Joseph, Dan, Tom, Lawrence, Andrew, Laurel, Helen, Michael, Maureen, Brian, Patricia, Larry, Anna, William, Rita, Joann, Thelma, Janet, Randy, Florence, Dan, Toni, Carolyn, Laura, Gerald, and Robert Zeuner.
In addition to my own patients, members of my family and friends have been treated for cancer at MSKCC and my own mother is a breast cancer survivor in Ireland. I hope that my oncology training and experience can make a positive impact on their disease and in their lives. But I have no illusions; there is much that we do not know about the biology and optimal treatment of cancer. That is why half of my time is spent conducting research.
Knowing the profound need for research funding, I have completed six races for Fred's Team - the 2010-2013 NYC Half Marathons and the 2010 and 2011 NYC Marathons - and in so doing have raised more than $30,000 to support cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. I will be running the 2013 NYC Marathon for Fred's Team on November 2nd to raise money for colorectal and appendix cancer research at MSKCC. I received support from many of my patients and their friends and families through donations, kind words of support, and by coming out to cheer for Fred's Team on the streets of New York. These races have been among the most exciting and rewarding experiences of my life. I am hoping that you will be able to donate this year. If you are able to donate, the money will be used to support our research efforts at MSKCC in the area of colorectal and appendiceal cancer.
Thank you for visiting my web page. Your sponsorship is a wonderful recognition of the need to support cancer research at MSKCC.
How You Can Help
Please make a donation to my run today, and bring us one step closer to a world without cancer. Since 1995, Fred?s Team has raised over $46 million -- and together we can continue to make meaningful progress for cancer patients and their families.
