Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: Community Events

Legwork for Lungs 5k Run & 1 Mile Walk

Legwork for Lungs (www.egworkforlungs.org) is a community organization working to support lung cancer research through various event fundraisers and educational endeavors. Over the past two years, we've raised $18,250 for Dr. Paik's research at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Even though this organization started with a teenager shocked by a family friend's unforgiving diagnosis, it has now gone beyond that. Too many people are affected by this deadly disease, and flat government funding, social stigmas, and the efforts of Big Tobacco are keeping us further away from making necessary advancements.

In fact, lung cancer rates among people who don't smoke have been climbing rapidly within the past several years. In order for researchers to find out why and increase cure rates, they need funding. And if any place can get a breakthrough, then I would bet on Memorial Sloan Kettering.

The truth is, we don't need hundreds of thousands of dollars to get someting done. Our efforts and your efforts together will help, no matter how small they may seem. I know that as the race director of the Legwork for Lungs 5k, I am doing my part. With MSK, you can do yours too.

Thank you!
