We're raising money for pediatric cancer research with Kids Walk!
In 2007, when I was three-and-a-half years old, I was diagnosed with Stage Four Neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nervous system. Over the next five years, I was in treatment at MSKCC. During that time I had sixteen rounds of chemotherapy, over twenty radiation treatments, four rounds of immunotherapy (3F8), an experimental drug that only 200 people ever recieved and countless Bone Marrow aspirations, MRI's, MIBG's, CT scans and even some blood transfusions. Still, I was given the best possible care. If I was hungry, the lunch cart came right away. If I was bored, I would walk into the playroom with my favourite game already booted up. And if I so much as sneezed, I was given antibiotics, had all my vitals checked, and sometimes even got a blood test to make sure I was okay. Once, I remember my dad telling me that I had gotten more shots in my lifetime than he had gotten in his. I was 7, he was 53.
Since 2008, Team Toby has raised a lot of money, but there is still a need for more. Just one shot to prepare the body for the next round of chemotherapy costs $6,000. Through your help, and the help of my elementary school, BNS, and my middle school, MS 51, we can find better treatments, and bring the costs down.
100% of every dollar you give supports new research led by the Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). MSK takes care of more kids with cancer than any other hospital in the world—leading the way in cutting-edge treatments. MSK uses its expertise to discover new ways to help children fight cancer—worldwide.
Through the help of MSKCC, I was announced cancer free four years ago. Without the donations of the Kids Walk from previous years, my family would be in a very different position today.
Walk with us on May 6th or donate to help kids like me.
