I CAN IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT CANCER

Hello friends, family, and generous humans! I am very excited to announce that I will be running the New York City Marathon on November 3rd! I'm running and raising money with Fred's Team to support critical cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). I’m committed to making a difference in the lives of countless people touched by cancer.

In August of 2017, my whole world came crashing down. My rock, best friend, and the heart and soul of who I am was diagnosed with HR2 + Stage 4 breast cancer. At the time, I really had no idea what this word meant. Having seen friends and other loved ones battle breast cancer, I was convinced that this was something that would go away once she received surgery or treatment. However, over the next 7 months I was faced with the harsh reality that this was not the case.

After months of intensive chemo, the cancer spread to her brain, and she developed a very rare disease called Leptomeningeal or LM. Only 4% of stage 4 breast cancer patients develop this, and she was one of them. At the time, there was no form of treatment for this type of cancer. However, through the vast research and hard work of my dad & her amazing oncologist, she was the 12th and final patient to be accepted into a clinical trial with Memorial Sloan Kettering that treated LM.

While the treatment proved to have profound success with my mom, as the cancer had been completely wiped from her brain as shown during her last MRI, the effects of the drugs combined with months of chemo therapy was just too much for her to handle, she decided to stop treatment all together and on March 31st 2018, my mom passed away.

Running the NYC Marathon has always been a dream of mine, and one that I shared with my mom Ellen as well. I knew that one day I would make this dream a reality, and would have her cheering the loudest on the side as I crossed the finish line.

While I can only make part of the dream come true, I thought it was only fitting to run in support of a cause that is so near and dear to my heart.

 SUPPORT LIFESAVING RESEARCH

By donating to my race, you will be giving doctors and researchers at MSK the funding they need to make groundbreaking discoveries and conduct lifesaving clinical trials. Every dollar raised is another important stride toward progress — and brings us one step closer to a world without cancer.

While my mom lost her battle, she lost it being part of a study with MSK that will one day cure LM, and spare other daughters, sons, husbands, families and friends from losing the person they love. So please donate and help to kick cancers butt!

THANK YOU!
