Welcome to "Miles for Manny"
I CAN IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT CANCER
In 2016 I ran the Detroit Marathon with my nephew Michael, it was his first and my 17th. We took every stride together and crossed the finish line hand in hand. In 2017 we ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC and it was after this run that he and his wife Amanda announced they were expecting a child. Last year he ran the Chicago Marathon with his brother-in-law Derk and I repeated the Marine Corps Marathon. This year the three of us along with Amanda' cousin Katelyn, will be joining forces and running the New York City Marathon as part of Fred's Team. We have named our team "Miles for Manny" in support of Amanda Blanchette.
Michael and I had committed several years ago to run the 2019 NYC Marathon in celebration of his 30th and my 60th birthday. Now we are running with even more purpose. In January his wife Amanda (my niece) was diagnosed with an agressive type of breast cancer. Amanda in her fight, has been an inspiration for us all, and is the reason we formed our team "Miles of Manny". Her stuggle and battle are real, and we are committed to being with her every step of the way and to take strides in raising funds to help find a cure. I hope that you will join us in your own way, with prayers, good thoughts, positive energy, hope, cheers and if possible a donation.
Over the next few months while we are training, I will continue to update you on Amanda and her fight. It has been six months of chemo and cold caps to prevent hair loss. Amanda recently finished her 8th and final Chemo treatment. Her doctors are pleased with the way she has responded and we are hopeful as recent scans no longer detect the cancer. Together with Michael and their daughter Rory, Amanda is fortunate to the amazing support of family, friends, co-workers, and oncology team. Faith, Hope, and Love have also played and important part of this journey.
I also will honor the memory those family members that I have lost to cancer: My Mom, brother Tom, Aunts, Bettyann and Joyce and cousin Art.
