Team Onward and Upward!
Dear famiy and friends,
This letter has to begin with one essential fact - my brother Charlie literally saved my life. In 1998, I was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia and required a bone marrow transplant…Charlie was my perfect match! How can you thank someone for the gift of Life? The answer is, you can’t. I can love him and live in gratitude for him.
Last March, Charlie was diagnosed with stage IV Colorectal Cancer at the age of 49. My immediate response was to try to find a way to help him. If only there was a way to give him a part of myself, as he so selflessly gave me. Unfortunately, with this diagnosis, that is not a possibility. What is possible is to love and support him on his journey back to perfect health. How? I am joining Charlie and his amazing fiancé, and personal angel, Kendra, to run the NYC Marathon on November 3, 2019. The purpose behind this event is to raise as much money as possible for colorectal cancer research to benefit Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, MSKCC. Charlie is being treated by some of the greatest Doctors in the world at MSKCC and 100% of the funds raised will go directly to research for better treatments and ultimately, a cure. Please read Charlie’s story – a story of hope, inspiration, and love.
My brother takes on this challenge as an opportunity – to love more, learn more, and give more. His casts his light upon everyone he meets. Our team’s name is “Onward and Upward” -the slogan attached to his journey in treatment from day 1. If you are able to support our team, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If your charitable dollars are used elsewhere, I completely understand. At the very least, I pray that Charlie’s story has a positive impact on your life.
With gratitude and love,
