ANYONE WITH LUNGS CAN GET LUNG CANCER
In spring 2019 my sister Rachel was diagnosed with stage IV ALK positive lung cancer. The news came as a surprise to all of us. Rachel has always been an active member of the family like me - running, a cheerleader and never had any health issues. We learned through her diagnosis that anyone with lungs can get lung cancer and this is not just a smoker's disease.
It was hard to believe that while she was planning her wedding she also had to focus on treatment. This is where research and development has provided options that 10 years ago did not even exist. There is no cure. And while we are grateful that her body is responding very well, the cells can become resistant to her medication over time. Additional options will be necessary to keep my sister healthy.
The biggest celebration of the year was her wedding day on December 7th. It was one of the most happy days of my life as I had the honor to officiate their wedding. We loved seeing her full of love and joy on the dance floor with her husband. It will be something I never forget.
I'm running and raising money with Fred's Team to advance innovative cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). My goal is to raise as much as I can! A donation from you will support pioneering research and give me a boost as I train for my race - the London Marathon!
100% OF YOUR DONATION SUPPORTS RESEARCH
Every dollar you donate gives doctors and researchers the resources they need to make life-changing discoveries and better outcomes possible—bringing real hope to cancer patients and their families. More FDA-approved drugs for cancer treatments have been developed by MSK than any other academic institution in the world. As leaders in cancer care, MSK treats over 400 types of cancer each year.
Your support is key to helping experts at MSK discover new and improved treatment options. Together, we can make a big difference in the lives of people with cancer.
