Welcome to My NYC Marathon Fundraising Page
Name: Hilary Farley
Friends and Family,
I have been lucky enough to secure a spot to run in the 2018 New York City Marathon through the Memorial Sloan Kettering running club: Fred's Team. Running the NYC Marathon has always been a bucket list item for me - albeit not one I was sure I'd ever be able to check off. The prospect of running 26.2 miles is still a bit daunting, but I know I can do it, and I'm excited to be able to do so for such a worthwhile cause.
Most of you know that I lost my dad, Jim Farley, to prostate cancer nearly 8 years ago. While it was devastating to lose one of the best people I have ever, or will ever, know, the years between his diagnosis and death were mostly filled with hope, courage and overwhelming love. My dad never lost faith, took joy in every small victory, and continued to exude happiness and gratitude until his final days.
Despite this positivity, there were many times I felt sad and helpless. When someone you love so much is ill and you aren't able to make the pain recede or provide a cure, days can feel dark. However, along with all the difficulties cancer brought, I saw the incredible work MSK and its staff does for all its patients and their families. Their incredible, compassionate care and dedication to moving closer to a cure was inspiring, and something my dad frequently remarked on. Similarly, I saw my dad's unfailing ability to find the bright side in every situation; if his illness was able to help others live longer lives, it was a triumph.
I didn't get the ending I had hoped so fervently for with my dad, but I was incredibly fortunate to have 21 years with an amazing father whose influence will stay with me forever. I have decided to raise funds for MSK with the hope of moving other people closer to this miracle: finding a cure and not having to say goodbye too early. Every donation goes directly towards funding prostate cancer research at MSK, helping make this dream a reality.
I truly appreciate your support. Every donation is greatly appreciated, and no amount is too small.
Thank you, and lots of love,
