JOIN THE BATTLE. GIVE TO BEAT RARE CANCERS.
About three years ago, on the anniversary of my godmother's passing, I turned to my trusty friend Google to find a charity event that would raise research money (and awareness) for a very specific type of cancer: angiosarcoma. After searching endless variations of the words "angiosarcoma," "charity event" and "5k", two things happened: 1) I finally acknowledged that I in fact do not run and 2) I found Cycle For Survival, which raises research money for SO many types of rare cancers. I signed up for my first spin class the following week.
At the time, I wasn't aware that I'd eventually be dedicating this ride to my grandfather as well. He lost his battle with cholangiocarcinoma in May of last year. Unfortunately, as the years go by, the list of dedicatees grows. Multiple myeloma, melanoma, kidney cancer, ovarian cancer. So I decided that I'd continue to ride each year until, one day, this list stops growing.
Last year, Silva's Cyclists raised over $5,000!! A big thank you to everyone who donated and/or participated to any capacity. This year, my goal is to reach and exceed that number, so please consider contributing any amount, big or small.
We'll be hosting a couple of very special charity fitness classes in the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled for invites. Based on our experience last year, each one will end in adult beverages followed by loud singing and bad dancing.
Year three. Let's do this.
