Dear Friends and Family,

It has been 2 years since my son Noah was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma and one year since he completed treatment. He now has no evidence of disease and has resumed his life as a Junior at University of Michigan. He thinks he wants to go into medicine (wonder where he got that idea?), and so he spent this past summer working in a medical clinic in Ecuador. None of this would have been possible without the amazing work being done in cancer research and treatment, and one of the top research and cancer treatment centers is Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK).  Ewing Sarcoma was first described at MSK by pathologist James Ewing in 1921. In fact, Noah's tumor was sent to MSK where the tests were done to come up with his diagnosis.

Unfortunately, now my father is also now battling cancer, specifically Hodgkin Lymphoma. So far chemotherapy seems to be going as expected but this is a very unusual disease in someone his age. Fortunately, MSK’s researchers have played a pioneering role in the development and testing of immunotherapy drugs for Hodgkin lymphoma. In fact, researchers there led the international clinical trials that led to the approval of nivolumab and pembrolizumab for patients who have exhausted all other treatments.

So this year I am planning to run the New York Marathon with my daughter Sarina and I am raising money with Fred's Team to advance cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Fred’s Team is an athletic fundraising program dedicated to bringing us closer to a world without cancer. I am making my miles matter by raising money for critical cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center founded in 1884  is the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center dedicated exclusively to the care, control, and cure of cancer.

• MSK treats over 400 subtypes of the disease—and has produced more FDA-approved drugs for cancer treatment than any other single academic institution in the world.

• For many malignancies, including those of the breast, bladder, and bone, MSK cares for more adults than any other center in the nation.

• MSK treats more children with cancer than any other hospital in the world.

• Sloan Kettering Institute, MSK’s research arm, is composed of nine research programs and includes 100 laboratory investigators, 400 research fellows, and 200 graduate students.

I CAN IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT CANCER
Too many of us have been touched by this disease. My family, my friends, my patients and I have all had to struggle with this terrible disease.  By raising the funds needed, I give doctors and researchers the freedom to do what they do best: fight cancer through innovation.

SUPPORT LIFESAVING RESEARCH
Your donation will make important progress in cancer research possible and improve the lives of countless patients and their families. Together, we continue to make great strides against this disease.
