Welcome to Our Team Page
On Sunday, October 21, 2018 I will run a half marathon at the Runner's World Half and Festival, in Bethlehem, PA. With these 13.1 miles, I will raise money for Fred's Team, the official athletic fundraising program for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center.
It was on February 3 of this year when I was told that my sister, Richele, had been diagnosed with kidney cancer. My husband and I received a last minute text from her, messaging that she and my brother-in-law would be stopping by for a late morning visit. We knew something was wrong because in my family we rarely do last minute visits, especially on a lazy, Saturday morning!
This news, just three months after my husband's prostate cancer diagnosis, was too much for me to handle at that moment. As Richele and my brother-in-law explained the course of events that led to her diagnosis, I faded into my own dark world, feeling nothing but sadness and hearing in my mind the relentless sound of the words "kidney cancer."
Richele has a rare type of kidney cancer, called Sarcomatoid Renal Cell Carcinoma, but she is in great hands at MSK and we are all optimistic. My sister, her husband and two daughters have been tough and strong through all of this, and the infinite love and support from family and friends surrounds them.
On 10/21 I will stay tough and run strong for my sister and our family!
Please consider supporting me with a donation; any amount is appreciated and will give MSK doctors and researchers more opportunity to fight cancer through fresh, new tools and technologies. Fred's Team guarantees that at least 80% of the money I raise will go toward kidney cancer, the area of cancer research I selected.
Thank you in advance for your support, and for reading my story...
With love and gratitude,
