Welcome to Our Kids Walk Team Page
As many of you know, our daughter Evie Herman was diagnosed with leukemia in April 2014 and underwent almost 2.5 years of chemotherapy. Through her long treatment, hospital stays, multiple procedures and amazing recovery, we were fortunate enough to have support and treatment every step of the way from Memorial Sloan Kettering. And we learned to appreciate how much MSKCC does to support, treat, and comfort sick kids.
We hope you can join us for Kids Walk on Saturday, May 4 in Central Park. Gather with families, students, patients and supporters to walk and raise money with one unified goal: to beat pediatric cancers. 100% of every dollar goes to pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Here is what Evie wrote, in her own words, when she was 8 years old, after she had recently finished her cancer treatment - she says it best in terms of why we need to support this cause:
I was living an average life until I was hit with leukemia, a type of cancer. My family and I were terrified and I thought I wouldn’t survive. Thankfully, after 2 and a half years of stress and frustration put on my family and I, I was cured and it was all done. But after that, I realized there were so many kids who didn’t survive it and were put into radiation and many other things I didn’t know about till then. And I started wisheing there was some way I could help. Though cancer is something I hold in my heart and remember all the ruff years I have had that will stay there like times flowing in my body. I think of all the people who didn’t survive and maybe even went through much worse times than I have. And that should never happen to a person. All the harsh times that we have gone through mean something. But the worst times are hearing the word he or she will not live. When I grow up, I’m gonna do tons of research on cancer and sometimes I will fail, but I will always have faith that I can find the cure for cancer. No one deserves to go through all the roughness that I and many other people have. And we stay strong and believe we can fight cancer away.
Please help us support this important cause to find better cancer treatments and help other kids be cured!
Together, we can make a difference. Thank YOU!
