Susanne Hilgefort and Michael Mydlarz of Stamford, CT passed away in a small plane crash on Saturday evening, July 16th in Esperance, NY. Also killed in the crash was their good friend, Lisa Quinn. Susanne is survived by her parents, Margreth and Hans Hilgefort along with her sister, Christina Horner, brother-in-law, John Horner, and beloved nieces Courtney and Lexi. Michael is survived by his mother Elaine Benko, father Andrew Mydlarz as well as his sister Tracy Sandor, brother-in-law, Tom Sandor and beloved niece and nephews Micheala, Ryan and Kyle. Susanne grew up in Greenwich and attended Glenville Elementary School, Western Jr High and Greenwich High School before heading off to Tufts University. She worked for Major League Baseball and was one of their longest-tenured employees. She loved to travel and not only visited many places but truly experienced the cultures of the countries she visited- never shying away from an adventure. In addition to her jet-setting ways, Susanne was a caring and loyal friend and family member at home who adored her husband, nieces, and all her extended family around the globe. Michael grew up in Norwalk and attended Brookside Elementary School, Benjamin Franklin Middle School, and Brien McMahon High School. He graduated from the University of Connecticut and was an Optician at Lens Crafters in Stamford. Mike had a passion for gardening, cooking, and winemaking. He was a "Mr. Fix-It" around their home. Traveling to the Indy 500 was a yearly event he never missed, which influenced his passion for cars. Mike was a quiet and gentle man with a great sense of humor. His loyal companion, Peek-A-Boo, was by his side throughout his battle with leukemia. Susanne and Mike married in September of 2013.
